Double-Blade Canoe paddle. Often confused with kayak paddles, Double-blade canoe paddles are different in that they are longer, averaging 8', and more lightly built, as there is no need to use it to enter and exit the boat, nor is it likely to be used with such aggressive braces as a kayak paddle will be called upon to do. Double-blade canoe paddles are usually used in small solo canoes, and were very popular at the end of the 1800's and the early the 1900's. The Red River double-blade canoe paddle is based upon a turn of the century L.F. Herreschoff paddle. The blade is spoon shaped and has a fiberglass and epoxy reinforcement on the tip, just as our standard paddles do. A carbon fiber ferrule allows the to be taken apart in two sections, as well as being able to adjust the angle of the blades relative to each other. This paddle is often ordered in Cherry, but is available in any other suitable paddle wood. |
